Carbonhand is an assistive aid that gives power back to people with impaired hand function. The sleek glove contains pressure sensors that detect when the user initiates a hand grip, then applies the power needed to ensure a firm hold. Carbonhand’s Motional Intelligence™️ provides intuitive, dynamic support, allowing the user to perform tasks they couldn’t otherwise with increased ease and security.
Key Features
The Carbonhand is clinically proven to enhance grip by providing strength and endurance. The 3-fingered glove contains pressure sensors which detect the intention of the user, and a powerpack which delivers the desired support. Each glove is sized to the user, with a supporting app to provide customised profiles to support activity.

The following inclusion criteria will give you an idea of whether Carbonhand is likely to be of benefit:
Ability to voluntarily open the hand
Spasticity grade 0-1+ can likely be supported.
Grade 2 will require discussion and physical assessment.
Grade 3+ are not suitable.>30 degrees of Range of Motion (ROM) in the MCP joints.
High ability of arm function
40 points or higher on the Action Research Arm Test (ARAT).Some superficial and deep sensory function to fully benefit. Total loss may be difficult to control the system.

These are absolute contraindications to using Carbonhand:
Open wounds on the hand or arm
Swollen hands
If Pain is worsened or persists when using Carbonhand, then use should be discontinued.
Depending on the nature of the users hand impairment, it is recommended to start using the Carbonhand gradually to avoid overexertion.

The Carbonhand is designed to help users with impaired hand function to be able to better better perform daily tasks, that require grip strength and/or endurance.
This can be tasks like
holding cups/mugs, gripping door handles, holding and carrying bags
household chores (vacuuming / gardening)
hobbies like golf, cycling etc.
Success will depend on a variety of factors, influenced by the inclusion criteria above. But may also depend on further modifications to objects, technique, and practice to achieve the best outcomes.

No. If the glove could become dirty or wet, you should use a protective glove over the Carbonhand.

The battery life is expected to be 8 hours based on average use.
Charge time is approximately 2 hours (from a depleted battery).
The power unit is charged by mains power, using a safe release magnetic connector. -
The glove itself is connected by an arm strap to the power pack. The arm straps come in different sizes for the best fit, depending on how you prefer to wear the power pack.
The power pack can be carried in different positions eg as a backpack, on the waist, or can be folded to fit a user’s own bag / purse, or mounted on a wheelchair.

Access To Work Grant
Some clients are eligible for the Access To Work grant from the UK government. A number of our clients have funded their device as they use it as a workplace aid.Access to Work can help you get or stay in work if you have a physical or mental health condition or disability. Your workplace can include your home if you work from there some or all of the time. It does not matter how much you earn. If you get an Access to Work grant, it will not affect any other benefits you get and you will not have to pay it back.

Bioservo offers a 6 month warranty on the glove itself, and a 2 year warranty on the other device parts.
Carbonhand should be used according to the instructions. Incorrect handling can cause discomfort and will void the warranty.

In order to organise a demo we’ll need to know where you are and ask you to complete a risk assessment. It gives us some basic information to make sure the device is safe and suitable for you to use. We’ll also provide you with some further information.

Using the details on your form we’ll look to organise a demo at a nearby clinical facility (usually a physio practice), or in your home if more appropriate.
